§ Design note
- 01Landmark Presence. The lighting gives the windmill a clear and dignified night-time identity, reinforcing its role as one of Jerusalem’s best-known heritage landmarks.
- 02Tower and Sails. Light emphasizes both the stone tower and the windmill sails, allowing the structure to be read as a complete architectural object rather than only a lit masonry base.
- 03Site-Specific Character. The design responds to the special setting of Mishkenot Sha’ananim and to the visual prominence of the windmill within the Jerusalem landscape.

§ Technical notes
- 01Exterior Lighting Only. The project scope focuses on the exterior architectural lighting of the windmill and its visible architectural elements.
- 02More Than Uplighting. The lighting strategy is not based only on uplight fixtures; additional lighting positions are coordinated to illuminate the sails, upper elements, and changing orientations of the windmill.
- 03Changing Windmill Orientation. Because the position of the windmill head and sails changes according to the wind, the lighting is designed to maintain legibility and visual balance from different orientations.
- 04Heritage Integration. Equipment is integrated carefully into the site to support long-term operation, maintenance access, and minimal visual clutter around the historic structure.
